Harit Vikas is an organization that works to promote sustainable practices in different areas promoted by United Nations, helping people adopt environmentally friendly solutions. Initially, its website mainly focused on agriculture, providing information related to farming and sustainability in that field. However, the organization wanted to expand its online presence to showcase a wider range of services beyond just agriculture, including other sustainable development goals.
To achieve this, the website was redesigned with a focus on simplicity, clarity, and ease of use. The goal was to create a modern and visually appealing platform that is minimalistic, well-organized, and easy to navigate. This new design ensures that users can quickly understand all the services Harit Vikas offers, making the website more effective and engaging for visitors.
MY ROLE
I played a multifaceted role in the Harit Vikas redesign project as the sole designer, responsible for web design, UX design, and UI design. From conducting user research to crafting the final user interface, I was deeply involved in every stage of the design process. My goal was to create an intuitive and visually appealing platform that not only met business objectives but also resonated with the organization's target audience.
Collaborating closely with the stakeholders, I ensured alignment across all teams. I
translated stakeholder feedback into actionable design solutions and iterated on prototypes to refine the user experience. My hands-on approach allowed for quick decision-making and seamless communication across the project lifecycle.
As a designer, I focused on simplifying complex user journeys, enhancing storytelling through impactful visuals, and creating an accessible design system. By maintaining a user-centric perspective, I ensured that the platform provided an engaging experience for users and other stakeholders. Over the course of three months, this comprehensive design approach brought the Harit Vikas vision to life.
CHALLENGE
The previous Harit Vikas website focused mainly on agriculture, failing to highlight its initiatives like women's empowerment, climate change, and skill development for youth. Poor content structure and dense, unorganized text made it hard for users to find key information, leading to high bounce rates.
The lack of clear CTAs, visual hierarchy, and modern UI elements resulted in low engagement and an outdated look. Navigation was confusing, the site wasn’t mobile-friendly, and its weak SEO and absence of a CMS made it difficult to update and manage effectively.

SOLUTION
To tackle these challenges, I restructured the site to clearly showcase all of Harit Vikas’s sustainable initiatives—agriculture, women empowerment, and skill development. Harit Vikas is currently working on another SDG, which is climate change. I redesigned the layout with an intuitive navigation, nature-inspired visuals, and mobile-first responsiveness to improve accessibility and engagement. Visual storytelling, clear CTAs, and streamlined content made the platform more user-friendly. On the technical side, I also worked to implement a CMS and apply SEO best practices, ensuring the site was both easy to manage and optimized for search.
RESEARCH & INSIGHTS
I kicked off the project with user interviews, gathering insights from potential users. It quickly became evident that users struggled to find relevant information, resulting in high bounce rates. Many also expressed frustration with the absence of clear calls to action (CTAs) and the lack of engaging visuals.
Additionally, I benchmarked against other nonprofit websites and performed usability tests on the existing platform. Combining qualitative insights with quantitative data, I identified key pain points and opportunities.
